Objective(s):
By the end of today's sessions students will:

1. Identify Balance and Imbalance in a print composition.
2. Create Balance and Imbalance in a print composition.

3. Finish Balance posters (2 Balanced - Symmetrical, 2 Imbalanced - Asymmetrical)
3. Basic CS3 Skills: Selection// Using the Marquee Tool

Please answer the following questions. Make sure you write in complete sentences!!!!
1. Download the picture above.

2. Crop the picture and create a layout in a 3 x 3 inch 150 dpi photo that is BALANCED (SYMMETRICAL).

- You may crop the picture
- Add your own HEADING TEXT (A larger Text Box)
- Add your own SUB TEXT (A smaller text box with 4 sentences of writing).

Balance in Composition Exercise #1: SYMMETRICAL BALANCE
In Photoshop, create a document with size: 5inches x 3inches @ 200 dpi.
In this Composition, you must create 2 SYMMETRICALLY BALANCED layouts for the following objects on your COMPOSITION.

Save Composition #1 as "PX-last-first-date-Symmetrical1.psd" AND as a jpeg.
Save Composition #2 as "PX-last-first-date-Symmetrical2.psd" AND as a jpeg.

YOU MAY CROP THE IMAGE, CHANGE THE TEXT SIZES AND COLORS. BACKGROUNDS MUST BE A SINGLE COLOR (Please no picture backgrounds or gradients as this will disrupt the BALANCE you are trying to achieve).

2. Copy and Paste the following text

Balance in Composition Exercise #2: ASYMMETRICAL BALANCE
In Photoshop, create a document with size: 5inches x 3inches @ 200 dpi.
In this Composition, you must create 2 ASYMMETRICALLY BALANCED layouts for the following objects on your COMPOSITION.



Save Composition #1 as "PX-last-first-date-ASymmetrical1.psd" AND as a jpeg.
Save Composition #2 as "PX-last-first-date-ASymmetrical2.psd" AND as a jpeg.

Use the same elements as before, however make sure that your balance is ASYMMETRICAL. Change the sizes of the pictures or text as needed. Try to achieve tension and change of mood in the composition.
